BASIC WELDING
COURSE
This 2 week course is
recommended for the student interested in a single welding process to
complement current job skills or to enhance basic skills required for a
hobby or avocation. The student must furnish his own personal welding
equipment for this course. A certificate is awarded upon completion.
Prerequisites
The student should be sufficiently mature and should be able to read and
write. The student should have good eyesight, and good eye-hand
coordination. To insure a reasonable degree of success as a welder the
prospective student should have manual dexterity, and spatial aptitude.
Materials Options
SMAW - Carbon steel or stainless steel
GMAW - Carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminum
GTAW - Carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminum
Course Objective
To be able to perform employment level skill tests for Arc Welder (DOT
810.384.014)
Production Line Welder (DOT 819.684.010), Tack Welder (DOT 810.684.010),
and the Arc Welding portion of Combination Welder (DOT 819.384.010).
This involves welding in all positions, welding thin and medium
thickness materials, single and multiple pass.
Course Content
This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of
welding fundamentals, equipment adjustments and metal transfer. It also
provides training to develop the manual skill necessary to make quality
welds in all positions on selected materials using single pass and
multiple pass welds.
Testing
To pass this course, the student is required to have passed a visual
inspection test and a bend test.
